HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – The Halifax Thunderbirds announced today the signing of forward Johnny Pearson to a one-year contract.
Pearson, 27, is a tall left-handed forward from Langley, BC. Drafted in the 2017 NLL Draft in the second round (19th overall) by the Saskatchewan Rush, the Ohio State University alum signed as a street free agent with the expansion San Diego Seals before the 2018-19 season. Over the next two seasons, he played in 13 games and recorded six points (5G, 1A), 33 loose balls and two turnovers.
“I’m looking forward to having Johnny in camp and the scrimmages ahead. He’s tall and athletic and can play both ends of the court,” Thunderbirds assistant general manager Scott Campbell said of the signing. “It’s good to have a guy who can play hard in defense, get the ball on the floor and stay and play if necessary or go out the front door and clear some space, score a few points and cut the transition.”
Pearson has been traded twice since 2020, first from the Seals to the then New England Black Wolves and then from the Albany FireWolves to Panther City LC. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound southpaw saw one-game action for the expansion club.
With the Buckeyes, Pearson played as a midfielder for four seasons. In 44 games played, he recorded 58 points (48G, 10A), 20 ground balls and a pair of turnovers.
The Thunderbirds return to Scotiabank Center on December 2 as they open their 2022-23 campaign against the Philadelphia Wings. Season tickets to watch championship-caliber professional lacrosse in Nova Scotia are on sale at HalifaxThunderbirds.com or by calling or texting 902-334-2333.
