Monza leads the race to sign Oscar Mingueza

Serie A new boys Monza are believed to be in pole position to secure the services of Barcelona defender Oscar Minguza this summer.

According to a report from a Spanish publication MARK, Oscar Mingueza looks likely to embark on a Serie A adventure in the 2022/23 season, with AC Monza leading the race to sign him from FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old could thus be the latest addition to the Italian club’s ambitious project.

Oscar Mingueza has been a practical player in the Barcelona squad since his first-team debut at Camp Nou almost two years ago. While the Spaniard has never been a first-choice defender for the Blaugrana, he was an asset because of his ability to play through the defensive line. At the same time, Mingueza also made his debut for his nation.

The 23-year-old has played 66 times for Barcelona while scoring two goals and five assists. But Mingueza’s time at Camp Nou appears to be over with Barcelona ready to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. And his next destination seems to be AC Monza.

Monza will embark on a Serie A campaign for the first time in their history in 2022/23 after earning promotion via the playoffs. Before rising to the top flight, no Italian team had played more seasons in Serie B (40) without playing in Serie A than the Biancorossi.

Silvio Berlusconi is now keen to make Monza a mainstay in Serie A, with the former AC Milan owner overseeing an ambitious scheme at Stadio Brianteo. To that end, Stefano Sensi has already joined Monza, who are reportedly looking to launch bold moves for Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi.

One of the most discreet but effective signings for Monza could be Oscar Mingueza. With two years of experience in La Liga, the Barcelona defender has become a viable target for the Biancorossi. And according to MARCA, the new Serie A boys are favorites to land the 23-year-old, with the Blaugrana happy to unload it this summer.

Mingueza’s agent Jose Maria Orobitg and Barcelona are negotiating the sale of the Spaniard, with the Catalan demanding between €5m and €8m for him. Girona also wanted to sign Mingueza from Barcelona but the newly promoted La Liga cannot afford it. But Monza could land Mingueza in a deal that satisfies Barcelona’s demands.
