Liverpool and Tottenham wanted to sign 24-year-old last year, now Gerrard could sell him

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa attracted major interest last year but could find himself on the chopping block again under Steven Gerrard.
Athletic reported in February 2021 that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Konsa.
As a childhood Tottenham fan, this might have turned Konsa’s head, but instead he signed a new contract with Villa until 2026.
Konsa had impressed alongside Tyrone Mings, suggesting he should make the England squad.

The stage was set for Konsa to get stronger and stronger this season, but that just didn’t happen.
With Steven Gerrard now planning to reshuffle his Villa squad this summer, Konsa doesn’t seem immune to the axe.
The Claim of the Mirror that Konsa and Tyrone Mings are both “under scrutiny” and could be sold to allow Gerrard to shape the team as he wishes.
That would be quite the turn of events for Konsa, who was backed for a huge transfer just over a year ago.
The season isn’t over and the transfer window isn’t open, so there’s more than enough time for Konsa to put in some solid performances and prove he can be Gerrard’s man.
Still, with Villa dropping seven goals in Konsa’s last three games and the defender receiving a red card against Leeds in February, the start of 2022 has been a tough one.
A Dean Smith favorite having also worked with him at Brentford, Konsa should attract Premier League interest if Villa make him available.
Still, it now looks a bit unlikely that Liverpool or even Tottenham will be back with a move for Konsa, whose future is suddenly in doubt.
