Haaland celebrates Dortmund’s goal.

Barcelona continue to be among the many clubs linked with the summer transfer of prolific Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, despite the continuing financial woes of the Catalan giants.

La Liga expert Guillem Balague has taken the time to explain how Barca can afford to sign one of Europe’s most wanted players and admits it will be “complicated” but certainly not “impossible” .

“Barcelona need to get rid of the big salaries and the big players, but it is possible and they are convinced they can do it,” Balague told BBC Sport. “How do they get Haaland?” They get rid of a bunch of players and Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti, Sergino Dest, Clement Lenglet, Frenkie de Jong, Martin Braithwaite, Oscar Mingueza, Luuk de Jong are for sale and then they can bring someone in. It’s complicated, but not impossible.

Barcelona spent big again in the January transfer window by paying € 55m for Ferran Torres. However, the Catalans have yet to register the striker and need to make room on the payroll first.

One way to do that is to offload the players, and Barca have already confirmed a winter start. Philippe Coutinho has been loaned to Aston Villa for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

The deal includes a call option that allows Villa to buy Coutinho permanently for € 40million, as reported by Diario Sport’s Toni Juanmarti. Premier League team to pay 65% of Coutinho salary, journalist says Gerard Romero.

Haaland prefers La Liga to the Premier League

Haaland is also wanted by other big European clubs, with Premier League champions Manchester City making the striker their top priority for the summer transfer window, according to Marca.

The Dortmund star has told fans he plans to play in Spain next, and Balague believes the 21-year-old would rather go to La Liga than move to the Premier League.

“He would get more money in the Premier League but he prefers Spain. The attraction of Real Madrid and Barcelona is still strong, ”he added. “The relation between [Haaland’s agent] Mino Raiola and Laporta are very close. If the money is there, they [Barcelona] would be considered and in return, Laporta would sign some of Raiola’s young players.

Haaland “would love” to go to Barcelona

Balague also believes Haaland could easily be tempted by a move to Camp Nou, but warned his powerful agent Mino Raiola would play an important role in the striker’s next destination.

“If Barcelona can get that money, Haaland would love to go to Barcelona. But that’s what Raiola is telling Laporta, ”he said. “I doubt he has stopped talking to other clubs, including Juventus, Paris St-Germain or the Premier League.”

There is no doubt that Haaland will be asked if he decides to leave Dortmund this summer. The Norwegian is one of the deadliest young forwards in Europe and has already scored 19 goals in just 16 appearances in all competitions this season.
