Arsenal’s Daniel Ballard is linked with Burnley after the relegated Clarets agreed a deal for the centre-back.
Arsenal have decisions to make regarding a number of players returning on loan this summer.
William Saliba looks set to stay, but the futures of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson, Pablo Mari and Lucas Torreira look a little less clear.
Defender Ballard also returns to Arsenal this summer after an impressive stint with Millwall.
Ballard will not become a first-team player under Mikel Arteta, however, and is expected to leave the club.
Arsenal’s Daniel Ballard is linked with Burnley
The sports report Arsenal have now agreed to sell Ballard to Burnley, but no fee is disclosed at this time.
It is reported that Ballard will not undergo a medical with Burnley and the deal is close to being completed.
New Burnley boss Vincent Kompany – who worked with Arteta at Manchester City – was reportedly key in persuading Ballard to sign.
Other clubs wanted Ballard but he is now set to move to Turf Moor – but he may not be saying goodbye to Arsenal forever.
Arsenal put a clause in the deal which means they can match any future offers for Ballard.
The 22-year-old is clearly highly rated at Arsenal and has even been called a ‘great talent’ in his native Northern Ireland.
Ballard impressed in Ligue 1 with Blackpool and then in the league with Millwall, but that wasn’t enough to push him into the Arsenal first team.
Ballard will now travel to Burnley as a replacement for James Tarkowski, and the hope will be that he links up with Nathan Collins moving forward.
Collins is attracting Premier League interest as Tarkowski prepares to join Everton.
Ballard is set to enjoy plenty of first-team playing time under an iconic cross at Kompany, knowing that some excellent performances could see him return to Arsenal one day.
