Everton could sign Gilmour from Chelsea

Ben Jacobs, CBS Sports Golazo reporter revealed that Everton could sign Billy Gilmour in addition to other midfield additions.

The Lowdown: Onana and Gueye imminent

The signings of Amadou Onana from Lille and Idrissa Gueye from PSG are both thought to be imminentas Frank Lampard looks to strengthen his squad for the new season.

They have already signed James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil, and could bring in even more new faces before the window closes.

The latest: Gilmour “very possible”

Talk to Daily CFEJacobs has revealed it’s “very possible” that the Goodison Park side will also sign Gilmour, adding that Lampard is “very excited” about a move for the Chelsea midfielder:

“A one-season loan is more likely than a permanent sale. Gilmour is open to the move but there are no formal negotiations yet. Frank Lampard is very fond of Gilmour so it’s very possible that this deal will materialize. And if Idrissa Gueye returns, the pair could form a very solid partnership.

The verdict: ready rather than permanent

If the Merseyside club were to sign Gilmour, a loan deal would be a better move for them than a permanent one.

They appear to have signed two central midfielders already, and adding another in the Scotland international would mean one or two would have to be made redundant in order not to consolidate that position.

Gilmour didn’t have the best season on loan at Norwich City, managing zero goals and just two assists in all competitions (transfer market) as the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League.

However, the 21-year-old is clearly a promising talent having already made 22 senior appearances for Chelsea, as well as 15 caps for Scotland (transfer market).

Of course, it’s possible that a move away from Stamford Bridge won’t work out anymore, which is why a loan deal would suit the Toffees.
