Christmas spoiled for care company staff after boss sent dismissal letters just before the big day

NOL is ruined for staff at a care and education company after bosses send out brutal dismissal letters just before the big day.

Staff at Horton Establishments Limited in Hull could be out of work by New Years Eve unless the company is bought out.

The business has been placed under administration and is currently for sale on the Gilbert Baitson auctioneers website.

The company operates a group of specialized community schools, children’s homes and adult homes.

Offers are being sought for the next seven days or employees are made redundant.

The workers were informed in a candid letter which laid bare the dark road ahead.

Some received the note on Christmas Eve and were shocked to learn of the company’s dire financial situation, the Daily Hull Mail reports.

He said: “If it is not possible to obtain a sale at least in principle by December 31, 2021, it is likely that the company will have to cease operations immediately because without more and in the current state things, the company is expected to experience substantial business losses in the first three months of 2022.

“In the event that the company ceases to carry on its activities in one or the other of its activities (the school or the adult care company), the employees of one or both companies will have to be made redundant. “

The workers said the prospect of a layoff came “out of the blue”.

Staff were also informed that they could be included in an initial consultation meeting with directors where more information would be provided.
