ITA Airways (formerly Alitalia) and airBaltic have announced a codeshare cooperation expanding travel opportunities between the Baltic countries and Italy. Customers of the Latvian carrier will enjoy convenient access to several Italian cities, just as ITA customers can now purchase tickets to Riga on non-stop flights from Rome – Fiumicino and Milan-Malpensa.
airBaltic will expand its destination offer by affixing its “BT” code to a selection of flights operated by ITA Airways covering 10 cities during the winter season: Brindisi, Bari, Catania, Genoa, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Lamezia, Terme, Turin , Trieste, Venice, to which will be added during the summer season Bologna, Florence, Naples and Verona.
Thus, ITA Airways will offer connections to its customers and will place the code “AZ” on flights operated by airBaltic between Latvia and Italy.
“We are very pleased to add ITA Airways as another partner to our existing network of codeshare airlines. Our strong network of partners allows us to further improve the connectivity of the Baltic States. The new partnership offers convenient connections to existing destinations in Italy.”

Codeshare flights are already on sale on both airlines’ websites and will start from February 2.
ITA Airways since the beginning of its operations has entered into several codeshare partnerships with Skyteam airlines and former Alitalia partners to expand its destination network. Interestingly, airBaltic also cooperates with several airlines from the Lufthansa Group, the potential buyer of the fledgling Italian airline.
